Alekhine (Drug)
Alekhine is a highly addictive drug developed by Alekhine Genetics and distributed throughout select areas of Crucis.
The point of this drug, initially as developed by Alekhine Genetic's greatest minds was on-the-fly cures for crippling genetic diseases. The cures themselves were unfortunately not permanent, and before they could take effect had to be dosed daily to keep the subject's genetic information from reverting. Naturally, there were side-effects to this as well as broader application. Jake was more interested in the side-effects and broader applications of the drug, and saw that it had dangerous potential that he wanted to exploit.
After killing off the previous scientists and bringing in a new bunch, Jake had them alter the Drug. It still proved capable of curing genetic deficiencies, such as Parkinsons, Huntingtons, cancer and even AIDS. However, it now had several additional 'benefits' as described by the Blue Man.
The first was that it had a very, very powerful chemical dependency factor. Addiction to the product developed in as few as two uses, but still its relative scarcity ensured that the product was kept to a reasonable minimum. This meant that reliably they would received buyers whenever the time to sell came up. They also only sold a limited amount, meaning that it was first come, first serve.
The second is that withdrawal symptoms were horrific. Instead of the genetic material merely reverting to its previous state it caused systematic cell death in the individual, which was not only extremely painful but progressively worse depending on how long the drug had propagated in their system and how much they had injected within themselves.
The third is that the drug has a completely random series of effects aside from being merely a cure-all. It will always alter the subject's DNA in an unpredictable, uncontrollable manner. Sometimes this results in immediate death, other times in even worse genetic defects than were previously cured. Sometimes, these diseases are amplified beyond all hope of counter. Still, on not-so-rare occasions beneficial mutations occur. They aren't set or categorized in terms of effects, and some are more useful for general activity than others.
Documented effects include (but are not limited to) Biological Combustion, Bio-electric Manipulation, Enhanced Reflexes, Heightened Reaction Time, and sharpened Eyesight.
