Delta
Delta, also known as 'The Delta Project" were a series of experiments funded by GOVERNANCE that consisted of dozens of test subjects with the aim to create super soldiers based off of the captured Amaranth. Eventually, Delta became twelve separate projects, each one producing a single subject.
The initial subjects were children, taken from orphanages from across the globe. They initially tried directly splicing the Amaranth DNA into the genetic sequences of the children, but the foriegn DNA adapted far too quickly and killed them by overtaking their cellular functions and attempting to rewrite their bodies into Amaranth forms. The result was an autoimmune disorder the lead to organ failure, causing their bodies to shut down. Reportedly there was one subject that survived, but records regarding it are unreliable.
The second batch were also children, but with a new method of integration. They developed a time-release capsule full of a virus meant to inject pieces of its code into the body of the children over time after ingested. This method was mildly more successful in integrating the DNA. However, of the several subjects only two survived. These two died a few weeks later due to complications in their nervous system, but up until their deaths exceeded expectations.
The time release capsule, now called Xerilium by the scientists, was decided to be the superior method of genetic manipulation in this case. They moved forward with the third batch, who were all homeless adults taken from the streets. None of these subjects died, but the changes induced were minimal. The most impressive specimen experience enhanced reflexes but nothing more. They were released back onto the streets after a few months of observation resulted in apparently no effect.
The fourth batch had better results. They took children who were entering puberty, and reduced the dosage of the Xerilium capsules to decrease the death ratio. It had also been decided to distribute the Xerilium to them as they progressed through puberty rather than all at once. The results were much better and much more stable. The forty subjects were divided into twelve groups, each one aiming to produce a new breed of soldier. Of the forty subjects, twelve survived.
These twelve were code-named Apollo, Ceres, Diana, Juno, Jupitar, Mars, Mercury, Minerva, Neptune, Venus, Vesta and Vulcan. The Delta subjects were deployed with great success in Operation- Fall of Rome.
